Ski holidays Eisenerz – skiing in the activity region Erzberg!

Eisenerz

The tranquil village of Eisenerz is located in a region of Styria renowned for its unspoilt natural beauty. Nestled in the striking mountain landscape of the Eisenerzer Alps, it lies about 30 km north-west of the district capital Leoben and can only be reached via the Präbichl Pass (1,226 m). Around 3,500 people live in the village, which has grown historically and is strongly influenced by former ore mining. The Erzberg (1,466 m), which towers not far from the village and is also known as the "Styrian bread loaf", is therefore of great importance. It is one of the most famous mountains in Austria and, as a show mine, one of the biggest tourist attractions in the region.

Eisenerz itself enchants visitors with its romantic old town and many sights, such as the centrally located Bergmannsplatz with its miner's fountain, the old town hall with its arcaded courtyards and sgraffito decorations, and the parish church of St. Oswald, the largest fortified church in Styria. The Schichtturm tower, which can be reached from the old town via a short winding road, offers a great view over the town and the Erzberg. In addition, the Präbichl ski area, toboggan runs, winter hiking trails and cross-country skiing trails make Eisenerz an attractive holiday destination.

Eisenerz Alps (Ore Alps)

The wildly romantic mountain range of the Eisenerzer Alps is characterised by rugged valleys, craggy peaks and wide alpine meadows. The highest mountain and attractive hiking destination on the approximately 60 km long mountain ridge is the Gößeck (2,214 m). However, the major tourist attractions are the Erzberg (1,466 m) with its accessible tunnel and the equally popular Eisenerzer Reichenstein (2,165 m), which towers right next to it. The latter is the destination of many hiking and ski touring routes and a great vantage point. Thanks to their high altitude, the Eisenerzer Alps are guaranteed snowy winters, so ski holidaymakers can enjoy perfectly groomed slopes in the ski resorts of Präbichl, Wald am Schoberpass and Kaiserau.
