Where is the best place to ski in Switzerland?

Most of Switzerland is covered by the Alps, so it's no surprise that Switzerland has some top ski destinations to offer. The country is known worldwide for its high peaks. Most ski resorts are located in the south-east of Switzerland. The Bernese Oberland is home to many famous ski resorts such as Grindelwald and Meiringen-Hasliberg. Further south in the Valais region is Switzerland's most famous landmark: the majestic Matterhorn, with a summit height of 4,478 metres. Where there are high mountains, there are usually great ski resorts. The fantastic ski resorts of Les Portes du Soleil, Saas-Fee and Les 4 Vallées are located in Valais.

The world-famous and exclusive ski resorts of Davos, St. Moritz and Samnaun are located in Graubünden, Switzerland's largest canton, which borders Austria and Italy. Skiing in Switzerland is even possible beyond the country's borders: Les Portes du Soleil combines twelve Swiss and French resorts into a single, huge ski area. Located south of Lake Geneva, Les Portes du Soleil offers pure skiing pleasure on approximately 580 km of perfectly groomed slopes.

Why book ski holidays in Switzerland?

No other Alpine country has as many peaks above 4,000 metres as Switzerland. It goes without saying that Swiss ski resorts are located at similarly high altitudes and benefit from excellent snow conditions. What's more, from up here you can enjoy unforgettable views of the picturesque mountain landscape. Switzerland is particularly well known for its pretty, unspoilt villages. In these cosy villages, you can leave the stress of everyday life behind and enjoy your winter holiday to the full. Zermatt and Saas-Fee, for example, have car-free zones – perfect conditions for a relaxing holiday.

Switzerland is also setting a clear example for sustainability with its "Swisstainable" initiative. In order to preserve the natural beauty of the Alps for future generations, the programme promotes ecological and economic responsibility and shows that sustainable travel does not have to mean sacrifice. Switzerland also has enormous cultural diversity. Not only are four different languages spoken in this relatively small country, but there is also a huge selection of culinary delicacies. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Swiss cuisine? Swiss cheese, of course! No wonder, then, that traditional cheese fondue, prepared with regional products, is one of the highlights of any holiday! Refined with white wine and spices such as garlic and black pepper, the cheese develops its full aroma.
