Ski holidays Sils Maria - Inspirational landscapes!

Sils Maria (St. Moritz)

If an author dedicates a poem to a place, it can only be worth travelling there. Friedrich Nietzsche spent 7 summers in Sils Maria, and the resort didn't only give him inspiration for his poem named after it. It's not too much of a surprise: after all, Sils Maria is located beautifully in between the lakes Silsersee and Silvaplanersee, at the entrance to the romantic Flextal valley which is car-free and can only be reached by a horse-drawn bus. Since it wasn't only Nietzsche, but also other artists like Joseph Beuys or David Bowie who found their inspiration here, Sils Maria is called "THE cultural centre of Engadin". The museum "Friedrich-Nietzsche-Haus" serves as monument for the poet. But not only the creative ones are impressed by Sils Maria. The Engadin valley is also a paradise for winter sports fans, thanks to its close proximity to the famous ski areas around St. Moritz. The Furschellas, the local mountain, gives you direct access to the Corvatsch ski area with the highest mountain station in the Eastern Alps (3,303 m).

Engadin

The sun-spoilt Engadin Upper Valley lies in the Graubünden canton. The region is separated into Upper Engadine and Lower Engadine, Upper Engadine being really impressive with its gorgeous landscape filled with lakes, forests and breathtaking glaciers. "Piz Bernina" is the only 4,000 m mountain in the eastern Alps. It is very impressive and, along with the majestic Morteratsch glacier, is located in Engadin. The region is not just the fount of "white winter holidays", but also the River Inn. The upper valley astonishes constantly with contrasts, which really distinguishes the famous resort of St. Moritz. St. Moritz is an annual destination for high society. In addition to modern and luxurious architecture, one can find many rustic farms and old Romanesque churches in the rest of Engadin.
