Ski holidays Italy

Italy has everything to offer: racy steep slopes and famous World Cup slopes in the Dolomites, as well as lush "snow holes" such as the powder snow paradise of Livigno. Alpine cosiness and rustic mountain huts can be found above all in the South Tyrolean ski resorts. Plenty of sunshine is included free of charge. Italy offers you the perfect combination of culinary and sporting enjoyment!

Why book your ski holiday in Italy?

Welcome to Bella Italia! In diverse Italy, la dolce vita is not just a motto, but a way of life. Enjoying life in all its facets and being happy – Italians love their country with all its possibilities and pleasures. Part of this attitude to life is, of course, enjoying skiing and snowboarding.
Vino, gelato, cappuccino, pizza – Italian cuisine is probably one of the most famous in the world, but skiing is at least as popular as Italian food. That's why you should never travel to Italy in winter without visiting one of the many beautiful ski resorts. And once you're there, you should definitely not start your journey home without first trying the delicious food and fine wine. Italy offers adrenaline junkies and recreational skiers long, wide slopes that are perfect for carving. Don't forget your sunscreen on your trip to Italy, as the country is blessed with many hours of sunshine – which could be one of the reasons for the Italians' zest for life. So, enjoy your day on the slopes with breathtaking views, excellent snow conditions and the warming rays of sunshine caressing your face.

Where can you go skiing in Italy?

In Italy, you can enjoy winter holidays in six regions. Most lifts are located in the Dolomites. The Dolomites are part of the Southern Alps and are known for their unique beauty even outside Europe. The Dolomites are spread across the regions of South Tyrol, Belluno and Trentino. South Tyrol is considered the sunniest region in the Alps, where skiers and snowboarders find true happiness. In addition to the Dolomiti Superski region with 12 ski areas (including Sella Ronda and Gardena Ronda), there is also the opportunity to discover smaller ski areas with cosy ski huts. However, the Dolomiti Superski region clearly stands out with its incredible 1,200 kilometres of slopes and 460 lifts in just one lift pass!

The Dolomites in Trentino are easily accessible via the Brenner Pass and also offer beautiful ski resorts. The Lombardy region, with the winter sports resort of Bormio, has a sporting history – the World Ski Championships have been held here several times. The municipality is located in the province of Sondrio, the north-easternmost region of Lombardy. Another interesting ski resort is located above Italy's freeride and telemark mecca, Livigno. The town is located directly on the Swiss border and is therefore known as a duty-free zone and shopping paradise. In addition, the inexpensive ski resort, which is also known for its pioneering status in terms of avalanche safety in freeriding, offers a fantastic programme of events in winter.

Heliskiing is also possible in Piedmont, near Turin and the French border. In 2006, Turin hosted the Winter Olympics. The snowboarding competition took place in Bardonecchia, which is why the town is definitely worth a visit for snowboarders!
Another suitable location for skiers and snowboarders is the Aosta Valley near the border with France and Switzerland. The valley offers beautiful hotels, cosy ski lodges and a wide selection of restaurants, as well as numerous opportunities for an entertaining evening. The Veneto region stretches from the Adriatic coast to the Dolomites. Here, the Alpine town of Belluno offers many beautiful slopes. The Belluno ski area even has one of the longest slopes in Europe. This 12 km long slope offers pure skiing pleasure from the famous Marmolada peak down to the valley and is also part of the Dolomiti Superski ski region.

Are the Dolomites the most beautiful mountains in the world?

The Dolomites, part of the southern Alpine region, are considered the most beautiful mountains in the world. Are they really? Perhaps... If you visit the region on a sunny day when fresh snow has just fallen, the white blanket of snow glistens in the sunlight and you are surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding mountains, you will surely agree without hesitation. Since 2009, the Dolomites have even been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The highest peak in the area, the Marmolada, reaches an altitude of 3,342 metres.

What else can you do in your ski holiday in Italy?

There is plenty to do on a winter holiday besides skiing. Cross-country skiing is particularly interesting. There are numerous beautiful trails of varying degrees of difficulty – from beginner to expert, there is something for everyone. The most suitable region for cross-country skiers is Alta Pusteria, home to Europe's largest cross-country skiing carousel. As part of the Dolomiti Nordicski network with approx. 1,300 km of trails in 13 regions within the Dolomites, the conditions there are ideal. Other activities on a ski holiday include snowshoeing, hang gliding, paragliding, horse-drawn sleigh rides and ice climbing.
