Ski holidays Wengen - more than skiing!
Wengen
The famous village of Wengen is located in the Bernese Oberland at an altitude of approx. 1,274 m, and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding 4,000-metre mountains. Since 1893, Wengen is accessible only by the Wengernalp railway from Lauterbrunnen (approx. 3.5 km). The village doesn't have a direct connection to the road network and is free from cars. Not only the nostalgic wooden houses, cabins and shops, but also the outstanding location - which guarantees an above average number of sunshine hours - make Wengen an exceptional holiday destination.Every high season, a number of cultural events, such as concerts, choir- and yodeling performances, take place in the village centre. But the charming mountain village also impresses in the field of winter sports: in January every year, the Lauberhorn ski competition takes place. This slope counts as one of the most challenging in the Alpine Ski World Cup. Cross-country skiers and winter hikers also get their money's worth here. With a total of approx. 100 km of hiking trails in the Jungfrau region, you will be more than impressed by the unique mountain landscape!
Jungfrau Region
The Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains, with the famous Eiger North Face, are the hallmark of the Jungfrau Region. Located in the heart of the Bernese Oberland, the area stretches from Interlaken to the peaks of the Jungfrau massif. An impressive mountain panorama and crystal-clear lakes attract thousands of tourists to the famous holiday resorts every year. The region is home to several treasures, such as the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn, with the longest ice stream in the Alps (22 km), which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Equally famous is probably the Piz Gloria restaurant on the Schilthorn (2,970 m), which served as the backdrop for the James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The Top of Europe is the highest railway station in Europe, located at an altitude of 3,454 m. The Jungfrau Region is considered an Eldorado, especially for winter sports fans.
