Ski holidays Hallstatt – World Heritage at the Hallstätter Lake!
Hallstatt
Hallstatt lies on the shores of the Hallstätter Lake in the geographical and historic centre of the Salzkammergut region. Houses line the narrow lakefront as well as the mountain slope that rises steeply behind the village's edges. Centuries ago, the village acquired cultural interest through its saline economy and trade. The prehistorical excavations at the Gräberfeld near Hallstatt added to the village's worldwide fame. Due to this cultural and historic heritage, the place was eventually declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. The idyllic location by the lakeside, the architectural unique townscape – many houses are listed buildings – as well as the surrounding mountain panorama make this place an appealing destination for every season. The Dachstein massif offers a large selection of attractive ski and ski tour areas for winter sport lovers.Dachstein Salzkammergut
The Inner Salzkammergut, also known as the Dachstein Salzkammergut, stretches around the imposing Dachstein massif – from Bad Ischl in the north to Schladming in the south and from Abtenau in the west to Bad Mitterndorf in the east. The region lies at the intersection of the provinces of Upper Austria, Styria and Salzburg, with the majority of it located in Upper Austria.Since the 14th century, the region's rich salt deposits have shaped it and made it significant worldwide. Archaeological finds and centuries-old traditions bear witness to the long history of this cultural landscape. In 1997, the Dachstein Salzkammergut was declared a World Natural and Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO – an award for its unique combination of breathtaking nature and historical significance.
Today, the region attracts visitors with its salt mines, impressive panoramas and varied winter sports opportunities. Whether hiking, skiing or simply enjoying the alpine landscape, the Dachstein Salzkammergut offers unforgettable experiences for everyone.
