Wegscheid
Far away from any hustle and bustle, in the southern Bavarian Forest, lies the small market town of Wegscheid with 5,500 inhabitants. The tradition of craftsmanship is still very much alive here. The Wegscheid region has been characterised by weaving since the 17th century. The art of weaving still has a long tradition here today. Craft businesses bear witness to this heritage and produce fine lace doilies, border skirts and the like.Nature lovers will find an unspoilt idyllic landscape in Wegscheid. The surrounding meadows, fields and forests create a profound sense of tranquillity. Families can spend undisturbed time with their loved ones, build snowmen, ski on the local lifts and hike through unspoilt nature. The centrepiece of the small town is Lake Rannasee, the largest bathing lake in the Bavarian Forest at 20 hectares. In winter, a 3 km hiking trail is cleared along its shore, inviting you to take a family walk through the glistening white landscape. The market town of Wegscheid is located in the district of Passau, which makes excursions to the "Three Rivers City" of Passau, 30 kilometres away, a great option. The Austrian border is also not far away, meaning that the beautiful "Hochficht" ski area is easily accessible.
Bavarian Forest
The Bavarian Forest is the largest forest landscape in Central Europe. In 1970, the Bavarian Forest National Park was founded here, which together with the Bohemian Forest forms the largest contiguous forest reserve in Central Europe.
