Ski holidays Murau - Snow up your life!

Murau

The antique town of Murau is surrounded by the Lower Tauern and the Nock Mountains and located at an altitude of 829 m. The numerous medieval structures, such as the Murau castle, the famous Murau brewery and the many wooden buildings, create a historical vibe and are waiting to be explored by you during a sightseeing walk or museum visit. Today Murau is the centre of the ski region Mur Valley and offers winter sport, as well as fun off piste activities. The comprehensive cultural range, plus the various cafés and taverns make Murau a lively town with a lot of charm. The diverse recreational activities, like a climbing, tandem paragliding and tobogganing at an illuminated toboggan run, leave no wish unfulfilled.

Murau-Kreischberg

The Murau-Kreischberg region is part of the Mur Valley and is located in Styria, not far from the border with Carinthia. The valley lies in the shadow of the Niedere Tauern and Nockberge mountains. Winter sports enthusiasts can look forward to romantic towns and villages as well as pure winter fun on 42 kilometres of slopes at altitudes of up to 2,118 metres, while medieval buildings and Murau Castle lend the region a special charm.

Skiers and snowboarders can reach the ski area via modern cable cars such as the 10-seater gondola lift and several comfortable chairlifts. Thanks to extensive snow-making facilities, Murau-Kreischberg guarantees snow throughout the winter. Overall, the region shines with its family-friendliness, as there are children's areas on the mountain with a magic carpet, baby lift, dinosaur forest and mini slalom. Sporty winter sports enthusiasts, on the other hand, can let off steam on FIS slopes, a speed track and more athletic downhill runs.

Kreischberg has also become known beyond Austria's borders as the venue for the 2003 Snowboard World Championships and the 2015 FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships, which took place in the ski area's snow park. There is also plenty to discover away from the slopes in Murau-Kreischberg, where several winter hiking trails, a panoramic disc golf course and an illuminated toboggan run provide plenty of variety.

And at the end of the day, rustic huts such as the Kreischbergwirt cater to your physical well-being, while night owls are in good hands in bars such as the Berg 7 Lounge.
