Nestled between mountains, castles and palaces, Obervellach lies in the centre of Carinthia's Mölltal valley. Today, Obervellach has become more of a centre for nature lovers and sports enthusiasts. After all, its location in the immediate vicinity of the Hohe Tauern National Park and two varied ski areas makes it the perfect starting point for cross-country skiing and skiing excursions. The ski bus takes you comfortably to Carinthia's only glacier ski area on the Mölltal Glacier and to the Ankogel in about 30 minutes (operating hours according to the timetable on site). Austria's only Schroth spa resort not only offers a unique spa programme, but also a varied leisure programme.

Mölltal Glacier

"100% sun, snow and skiing fun" – the formula for success at the Mölltal Glacier and Ankogel is as simple as it is understandable. The 3,122-metre-high Mölltal Glacier is one of Austria's most snow-sure glacier ski areas. The southern side of the Alps is statistically the sunniest region in Austria. The panoramic view of around 30 three-thousand-metre peaks in the Hohe Tauern is unique in Austria. Affectionately known as "Mölli" by its fans, Carinthia's only glacier ski area tempts visitors to enjoy the finest powder snow from the end of September onwards.

Almost 50 kilometres of snow-sure slopes await you on the Mölltal Glacier and the nearby Ankogel. The Ankogel is also a challenge for fitness enthusiasts and off-piste artists, but leisurely carvers and boarders have long since discovered the generously wide slopes for themselves. The added bonus on "Mölli" and Ankogel: there are no waiting times at the lifts and no rush hours on the slopes. Both ski areas are characterised by typical Carinthian cosiness – a heart-warming mixture of serenity and hospitality. Ice skating and tobogganing are also guaranteed to be fast-paced and great fun. A visit to the "Tauern-Bad" spa is an absolute treat after or instead of winter sport activities.
