Ski area Hintertux Glacier
The Hintertux Glacier is the only year-round ski area in Austria and offers 64 km of pistes! Here you will find mainly red but also some blue and black descents. The "Buggelpiste" or the "Waldabfahrt" are challenging descents that require skill and fitness. The longest descent is the valley run from the Gefrorene Wand - a difference in altitude of 1,750 metres can be conquered here over a length of 12 km! A special attraction is the glacier bus: the gondola is suspended on two ropes instead of just one, making it particularly stable. With the Betterpark for experts and the Familypark for beginners, two fun parks ensure great freestyle fun on the Hintertux Glacier almost all year round.
Après ski Hintertux Glacier
There is also plenty of choice when it comes to leisure activities in Hintertux. A brisk toboggan run awaits on the 3 km long toboggan run at the Bichlalm - optionally followed by an evening in a mountain hut. Even more tobogganing fun awaits on two floodlit toboggan runs in Lanersbach and Juns. Several easy hiking trails also start in Hintertux, including to the toboggan run at the Bichlalm or along the Tux cross-country trail. Ice skating and Bavarian curling is possible on the natural ice rink in Tux, which is also floodlit in the evening. The restaurants and pubs in the village provide a cosy place to stop for a bite to eat, some with the opportunity to play darts, billiards or table football.
Unique mountain experiences await you high up on the Hintertux Glacier. Take the Funitel "Glacier Bus 3" up to the panoramic terrace at 3,250 metres and enjoy the fabulous view from the Gefrorene Wand mountain station to the Großglockner, over the Dolomites in South Tyrol to the Zugspitze. Or descend into the Spannagel Cave, one of the most important caves in Tyrol, which has a shaft length of over 10 km and a depth of up to 25 metres. If you want to travel a little further, we recommend a trip on the nostalgic Zillertalbahn railway through the snow-covered winter landscape. The nearest railway station is in Mayrhofen, around 20 km from Hintertux.
Snowpark Hintertux Glacier: Betterpark & Funslope Hintertux
There are two fun parks on the Hintertux Glacier, which are open consecutively, so that park fans can find a playground in the snow all year round. The Betterpark (snowpark) on the Olperer (3,476 m) is open from April to July and from September to December. The fine fun park at 3,200 metres can be reached via the Olperer t-bar lift and is one of the highest and most reliable of snow parks in the Alps. Freestylers can expect great jumps and a constantly changing jib setup here. The Betterpark is also the first snowpark in Europe to open with a big opening event at the beginning of October. This location simply makes every freestyle heart beat faster.
The Familypark (Funslope) on the Sommerberg promises fun for young and old. The park is open from December to April, replacing the Betterpark during the winter months. Here, at an altitude of 2,100 metres, you can ride through sweeping banked turns, over obstacles and wave tracks as well as through two giant snails. There are different variants to try out for the adventurous descent. The 4-seater Tuxerjoch chair lift takes you back to the Funslope start in no time! For the youngest, there is also the Kidsslope and the Flohpark at the "Schwarze Pfanne" descent to the valley.
The almost year-round freestyle fun on the Hintertux Glacier is really impressive with the Family Park and Betterpark.
