Ski holidays Waldkirchen – Historic climatic health resort at Goldener Steig!

Waldkirchen

The historic municipality of Waldkirchen lies at an altitude of 573 metres in the far east of Bavaria. It was once an important trading centre on the Golden Steig, the trade route to Bohemia. The town was surrounded by a ring wall with ten towers and two gates, parts of which are still worth seeing today or have been rebuilt. In addition, the hometown of ski jumper Severin Freund has a historic market square with fountains and legendary figures on the facades of the houses, which enhance the cultural and historical value of the town centre. With 10,000 inhabitants, Waldkirchen is a real small town that offers everything a holidaymaker's heart desires: leisure sports in the swimming pool, on horseback or in the climbing hall, but also leisurely activities in cafés, restaurants or in the magnificent city park, as well as an extraordinary shopping experience in the traditional Garhammer department store.

To the west lies the three-river city of Passau, to the east the Bavarian Forest National Park and all around a hilly forest landscape – the surroundings couldn't be more beautiful. Not far from the town centre is the Oberfrauenwald ski area with several ski lifts and a toboggan run. In Waldkirchen, history, unspoilt nature, outdoor experiences and winter sports combine to create a varied holiday programme with a high relaxation factor.

Bavarian Forest

The Bavarian Forest is the largest forest landscape in Central Europe. In 1970, the Bavarian Forest National Park was founded here, which together with the Bohemian Forest forms the largest contiguous forest reserve in Central Europe. In addition to the Alps, winter sports are also very popular in this part of Germany.

Families in particular will find just the right activities in this area. Those who do not wish to explore the beautiful snow-covered landscape of the Bavarian Forest on skis can also take a romantic ride on a horse-drawn sleigh. It is also worth visiting the famous palaces, castles and monasteries of the Bavarian Forest. You should also check out the numerous restaurants and rustic huts offering both regional and international delicacies.
