Ski holidays Bernau – enchanting high-altitude valley in the southern Black Forest!

Bernau im Schwarzwald

Southeast of the Feldberg, the wide Bernau high valley opens up at altitudes ranging from 855 to 1,415 metres. Right in the middle, at around 900 metres, lies the municipality of Bernau with its ten small villages and hamlets. This is pure idyll: the small villages are scattered across the valley, which is surrounded by snow-covered fields, meadows and, of course, the dense forests of the southern Black Forest. It is a wonderful place to explore nature on foot, snowshoes or cross-country skis. Right on the outskirts of the village rises the Herzogenhorn (1,415 m), the second highest mountain in the Black Forest and a great destination for hikers and tobogganers. Winter sports have a long tradition in Bernau, which is why there is also a training centre here where clubs and top athletes complete their training sessions and courses. The large network of cross-country trails is particularly attractive for Nordic athletes. The nearest slopes are also not far away: two small ski areas wind their way down the mountain tops near Bernau, and the Feldberg is only a few kilometres away.

Bernau also has a few surprises to offer: art lovers will find an interesting collection of paintings by Bernau artist Hans Thoma and other Baden-Württemberg artists such as Otto Dix in the Hans Thoma Museum. Every February, dog lovers will be delighted to hear that Bernau has been hosting international dog sled races for more than 30 years. Even the world championships for the best mushers have been held here. Whether you are a family, an active sports enthusiast or a culture lover, Bernau offers everyone an unforgettable winter holiday.

Black Forest

Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest cherry cake), Cuckoo clocks and the "Bollenhut" (traditional women's hat) - all this is typical for the Black Forest region and enjoys world-wide recognition. 160 km long and approx. 60 km wide is the expanse of this central German mountain range, covering 11,400 m² in close proximity to Switzerland and France. The Black Forest, with its more than 70 peaks over 1,000 m altitude, is the highest of the German central mountain ranges. Sporty Alpine skiers, expectant cross-country goers, loves of good wine and cuisine and all those looking for some relaxation and pampering, are welcome to experience the benefits of the Black Forest.
